"It's not about me, it's all about Christ who strengthens me!
our FOUNDATIONal SCRIPTURES: Ecclesiastes 4:12, Galatians 3:28 and Philippians 4:13
A three strand cord is not easily broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:12b)
I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13)
There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)
DIVAS for Christ is a global online Christ-centered women's ministry network ioundation of Christ as the perfect example of one who exercised self care for minstry effectiveness. It is designed to nurture and strengthen sister relationships of women in various ministry settings as we share, care, nurture, build partnerships to reduce the sense of isolation and lack of support.
In 2001, DIVAS was birthed as an ecumenical women's ministry with a focus on wellness. It has evolved from the traditional model of women's ministry to an interactive global women's ministry network that promotes inclusiveness, collaboration and more importantly, self-care.
As women serving in ministry, we must be intentional about self-care in order to sustain ministry effectiveness. Jesus is our perfect model of self-care (Mark 1:35). Often, Jesus took time to retreat to a quiet place for rest and renewal after a long day of ministering. Ministry can be overwhelming and often isolating. It may involve the pressure of unrealistic expectations, over commitment and lack of appropriate boundaries, which leads to stress, depression, and ultimately, burnout, if not properly addressed.
Before we can care for others, we must first care for ourselves. Self-care is not being selfish; it is about stewardship of our mind, body and spirit. This place is intended to be a safe haven where women serving in minstry are nurtured and validated as a woman with divine purpose while receiving encouragment to actively address her self-care needs.
What does DIVAS stand for? DIVAS is short for Divinely Inspired Virtuous & Victoriously Anointed Sisters. The worldview of a diva is someone who is self-absorbed, living according to the pleasure principle of what have you done for me lately. However, a Diva for Christ takes the focus off of herself and points others to Christ. She is concerned about others and understands that she can do nothing of her own strength but she can do all things through Christ. It is our connection to Christ that is the source of our strength and renewal.
As women, we are relational beings who wear many hats as daughters, sisters, aunts, mothers, grandmothers, girlfriends, wives, teachers, seminarians, astors, community leaders, and business leaders. We are professors, counselors, chaplains, pastors, teachers, deacons, ministers to youth, seniors, singles, couples, men, women, Bible study and church school teachers, psalmists, liturgical dancers, and seminarians.
We are a sisterhood, we are interdenominational,we are one; our members are from different faith traditions and Christ is our common denominator. Together, we celebrate one another, promote a spirit of unity and actively practice self-care as we follow Christ. This is only the beginning of an interactive and collaborative ministry that extends beyond the church walls. Truly, the best is yet to come!
